Dear colleagues, employees and veterans of the road industry!
We sincerely congratulate you on Road Workers Day!
The industry has a rich and interesting history. Systematic road construction in Russia began under Peter the Great: in 1712, construction began on a horse-drawn road along the shortest route between St. Petersburg and Moscow. Eleven years later, in 1723, the Senate issued a decree on the construction of a road between the two capitals, raising the roadbed in marshy areas and using fascines and crushed stone for compaction. During the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna in 1752, right-hand traffic was officially introduced.
In the 19th century, Russia actively adopted European technologies, particularly the John McAdam highway construction method, which involved laying layers of crushed stone with gradually decreasing grain size. This allowed for the creation of more durable and load-bearing surfaces. During the Soviet era, particularly during the industrialization and post-war reconstruction, thousands of kilometers of roads were built, connecting remote regions of the country.
The holiday itself—Road Workers' Day—was established in 1996. Initially, it was called Automobile Transport and Road Workers' Day and was celebrated on the last Sunday in October. In 2000, by presidential decree, the holiday received its current name and was moved to the third Sunday in October, where it has remained ever since.
Today, the road industry is more than just construction and repair. It also involves modern materials, digital design, smart pavement monitoring systems, eco-friendly solutions, and the highest safety standards. But the essence remains the same: you create the foundation upon which the entire economy and the daily lives of millions of people rest.
We are extremely proud to work with you as a team. You build and modernize highways, and we provide them with reliable infrastructure: from barriers to lighting poles. We are happy to be your technological backbone, ensuring that every road safety element operates flawlessly.
We wish you health, energy, and confidence. May your projects be exciting, your resources abundant, and your results lasting. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
